COLD WEATHER HAMPERS SPORT ON HARRAY
The Eunson Cup was the prize on Harray last Tuesday evening, and with the extremely cold winds for the time of year curtailing sport somewhat on the loch, it was a case of choosing the right area and method to take the spoils.
25 anglers set sail for a 6.30pm start, with many heading north up the loch to Biggings, Nistaben, Ess Holms, with the remainder all squeezed into the corner in Bochan. Some anglers chose to fish Hedgehogs and the likes on the stones and skerries while others chose the open water, choosing the right method was crucial to success.
The top three anglers all fished DI7 lines and mini lures, albeit half the loch away with James Bews head and shoulders above anyone, fishing Biggings/Nistaben winning the Eunson Cup with 13 fish for 11lb 4ozs, awesome angling. Runner up was Stewy Leslie with 5 fish for 6lb 6ozs from Bochan and James’s boat partner Erlend Hutchison came third with 7 for 6lb 1oz. Colin Sutherland, 5 for 5lb 6ozs, James Harcus 5 for 5lb 5ozs and Brian Forman 5 for 4lb 13ozs were the best of the rest. Heaviest trout on the night was a nice specimen going 1lb 12ozs weighed in by Jimmy Grant.
Hulks, Erlends Cat, Boris and Merky Maid were the flies which worked on the sinking lines, with Madeira, Claret and Black Hedgehogs working on the higher lines. A mention also for the two junior anglers, Josh and Tommy Tulloch who both had fish to weigh in, well done lads!
Up next is the “drawn partners “ competition on Boardhouse next Sunday, have a great day!
