IDEAL WEATHER FOR WALTER LENNIE CUP
Last Thursday night saw this rearranged competition take place on Hundland, fishing from 6.30 to 10.30 fir the Walter Lennie Cup. Conditions were ideal with a steady, light, northerly breeze, coupled with a full ceiling of cloud cover, affording long drifts the length of the loch, but were the trout playing ball?
A total of 23 anglers spread evenly across the loch for the start, and it was pleasing to see everyone keeping the engine revs low to minimise the effect on the fish, a trend that continued all night. Shorelines and skerries all over the loch had boats on them and it was a good while before anyone ventured out in the middle to ply their trade amongst the weedbeds. The first two boats out there had the best of it before the pressure of others slowed sport.
Best bag of the night was weighed in by Ken Kennedy with 13 fish for 10lb 4ozs, securing the Walter Lennie Cup, with Leslie Miller weighing in the heaviest fish of the night, as skelper going 1lb 13ozs. Others who scored included James Bews with 10 for 7lb 9ozs, John Munson with 9 for 6lb 10ozs and Ian Hutcheon with 8 for 6lb 9ozs. The young Tullock boys, Josh, Tommy and Sigurd had a good night, ably skippered by grandad Ian, netting a few undersized fish a 1 keeper for Sigurd, well done boys!
Ken fished his Merky Midas Hogs in Orange, Black and Fiery Brown on a fast glass line with James doing very well with Claret Hogs. Both Ken and James fished out in the middle of the loch for most of the night, with fish being taken alongside the vast patches of weed.
It’s another evening session next with Harray the venue, let’s hope for some more conducive conditions.
