NO JOY FOR THE MAJORITY OF ANGLERS ON STENNESS
Last Tuesday saw 23 hopeful anglers fishing Stenness for the Peter Miller Memorial Trophy. Conditions were favourable with a brisk Southeasterly and some warmth, so expectations were high. After 4 fruitless hours without a fish in the boat, even the most loyal supporters of Stenness were questioning why we bother coming back year after year with similar outcomes! There’s a loch over the road that make a proper competition of it. A point for discussion over the closed season maybe?
All the historically productive drifts saw boat pressure from the word go, with Redland very busy. James Bews and Erlend Hutchison chose to stick it out there all evening, which proved to be a winning descision.
James had what was an unbelievable basket for many other anglers, of 3 fish for 3lb 4ozs, including the heaviest fish of the night, going 1lb 2ozs, tremendous angling, to win the Peter Miller Memorial Trophy. Kenny Adam was runner up with 2 fish 1lb 10ozs, Norman Irvine had 2 for 1lb 3ozs and the few others who weighed in had one small fish each. In total, 8 anglers weighed in, with 15 anglers blank, grim statistics indeed.
James had success with Orange and Pink Muddlers, with Red Palmer, Colin’s Killer and Pink Tailed Coch Zulu amongst others mentioned in the aftermath which was very brief.
Hundland comes next on the calendar in a couple of weeks, tight lines meantime.
