2019 COMPETITION PROGRAMME 2019 LEADERBOARD

Boardhouse on good form for Walter Leask Cup

There was a very good turnout of 35 anglers on Sunday for the Walter Leask Cup, which was testament to how keenly contested our league is these days, because it was a day of weather which you wouldn’t put your dog out in. The strong south-easterly persisted for most of the day, and was decidedly uncomfortable when the showers were battering through.

Top Rod

Most of the field headed for the head of the wind at 10am, with boats strung out all along the top shore from Tufta to the Knowe. It was the right choice, as there were rods bent into fish immediately, encouraging considering the weather. That area was well chewed up with boats motoring back towards the shelter of the shore, but it didn’t seem to put the fish off too much. There were a few boats prospecting down at the Barony end of the loch, fishing the skerries and shore at Stanger and beyond.
It was obvious very early on that it would take a good basket of fish to come top, and it was Malcolm Russell who persevered at Tufta, and brought 13 fish for 8lb 9ozs to win the Walter Leask Cup handsomely. Malcolm’s tactics were a Fast Glass line to start with, fishing “wee drab wets”, take from that what you will, and then a DI5 Sweep with Erlends Cat taking fish regularly. Bucking the trend, and fishing down the Barony end was Brian Forman, who came runner up with 10 fish for 7lb 1oz, caught with midge tip and small Hedgehogs, with Olive his best colour, Brian had the heaviest fish of the day at 1lb. 4oz.. Third was Ken Kennedy with 11 for 6lb 14ozs, who fished the 5 Sweep all day, with Wattie’s Cat taking the majority of his fish.
There’s a weekend off next weekend, for all but the Intercounty Team who host Shetland over Saturday and Sunday. There’s also a team down at the Lake of Menteith for the Airflo Anglian Water International Scottish heat, good luck and tight lines to both teams.
