Boardhouse Loch produces superb Baskets

Saturday 20th June saw 35 anglers congregate at Boardhouse loch to compete for the WS Sinclair Cup. Midsummer it may be but with wet and blustery conditions prevailing it felt more like early March than June. These conditions seemed to suit the Boardhouse fish and a superb competition was recorded. Word had it that the loch had been fishing well all week and good quality fish were reported. Caenis and Olives had been hatching which surly would have the fish looking to the surface to feed
The start of the event saw the boats well scattered and no one area was popular. The eventual winning boat, Sandy MCConnachie and Ian Hutcheon headed for the north shore below the Barony, where Sandy had found feeding fish the previous day. These fish seemed to be in good numbers and Sandy stayed in this area all day winning the Cup with a superb bag of 21 fish for 14lb. 13 ½ oz. Ian had 17 fish weighing 12lb. 10oz. Other notable baskets were John Munson 19 for 12lb. 6oz., Andrew Morgan 14 for 11lb. 2 1/2 oz. and Stewart Wood 17fish for 10lb. 15 ¼ oz. Andrew had the heaviest fish at 1lb. 10 ½ oz .
Tactics varied but in general floaters, slow and fast intermediate lines were the order of the day. Some anglers did have success using fast sinking line techniques but in general top of the water fishing was more productive.
Flies of note included Hedgehogs, muddlers, and dabblers all in their variety of colours.
Its back to Boardhouse this coming Saturday night for the annual midnight cup 7.00pm till midnight let’s hope for some real midsummer weather
