ERLEND HUTCHISON HARD TO BEAT ON HARRAY

| Second win of the season for Erlend |
This rearranged fixture, from May the 19th for the Smithfield Shield, was
fished on a much more pleasant evening than that of the gale force conditions
of the original night. There had been a lot of angling on the loch prior
to this one as the competition season heats up for the final few matches.
The loch had taken a big slug of cold rainwater and was now at winter level,
this put the trout into the shallower water and deeper in the open water
drifts, looking for warmer conditions.
Boats spread out the length of the loch, from bankhead to Kirk Bay, everyone
had therir chosen spot. The final result proved that the Nistaben to Biggings
area was the place to be, with most of the top baskets coming from that
area. Winner oif the Smithfield Shield was Erlend Hutchison with a cracking
basket of 26 fish for 14lb 10ozs, he was closely followed by the other men
in top form on Harray at the moment, Malcolm Russell and Kevin Muir with
23 and 22 respectively. 30 anglers fished on the night and the best fish
was weighed in by Brian Foreman, a nice one at 1lb 1 1/2ozs.
Tactics which separated the wheat from the chaff was fast sinking lines
again, with DI7 the most popular. Fly pattern changed slightly, with the
fish seemingly finished with the Caenis and switching back to Daphnia. The
Black Cat, White Cat, Default dabbler, and black and green mini lures worked
in the deep water and Hedgehogs and more imitative patterns worked on the
stones.
This result sees the league positions change once again in the top six,
and it is shaping up for a very exciting final few competitions, its squeaky
bum time as they say in footballing circles and it doesn’t get any
squeakier than Boardhouse on a hard night.
